چکیده

Wound dressing is an artificial skin that can meet the requirements such as higher vapor or gas permeation and protection of wound from infection and dehydration. Poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogel is one of the well-known polymer gel that due to its good biocompatibility, hydrophilicity and capability of swell in water or biological fluids has been used in several biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. The main objective of this work was to synthesize, in order to obtain wound dressing with better properties, composite-hydrogels. These composites were prepared using combination of: PVA/bentonite PVA/cellulose, PVA/Ag nanoparticles, PVA/rosemary extract and PVA /clove extract, via the freezing/thawing method. For this purpose, chemical, thermal, swelling analyses and antimicrobial properties studies (using as indicator Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes) were carried out. The results showed that PVA/bentonite and PVA/cellulose had the higher antimicrobial behaviour. In addition, they exhibit the permeation and swelling characteristics suitable for use as wound dressing. Their function as barrier against microbe penetration showed that they could protect the wound from further infection; hence it could accelerate the healing process of wound.

Synthesis of pH Sensitive Hydrogels Based on Poly Vinyl Alcohol and Poly Acrylic Acid

In this research, hydrogels based on poly vinyl alcohol and poly acrylic acid blend were prepared which were cross-linked by applied thermal conditions. Afterward, effects of time and heating on water uptake were investigated. The highest water uptake value exhibited by the sample that was heated for 20 min. at 110 ºC was about 2129% after 4 days at equilibrium state. Hydrogels exhibited p...

Chitosan/nanosilver Nanofiber Composites with Enhanced Morphology and Microbiological Properties

In recent years natural polymers have been widely used in biomedical applications. Application of natural and biocompatible polymers in wound dressing, medical sutures and tissue engineering are extensively growing. Additional properties are provided when metal nanoparticles such as silver and gold are incorporated in to the fibers. However, nowadays nanofibers due to their inherent properties ...

Radiation synthesis of poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone)-kappa-carrageenan hydrogels and their use in wound dressing applications. I. Preliminary laboratory tests.

Poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone)-kappa-carrageenan hydrogels (PVP-KC) were prepared by irradiating the mixtures of aqueous solutions of PVP, KC, potassium chloride, and poly(ethylene glycol) by gamma-rays at different doses. Their preliminary laboratory tests were evaluated to identify their usability in wound dressing applications. For investigation of the effect of components on the gelation of PV...

Investigation of synthesis of PVP hydrogel by irradiation

Background: A dressing often covers the wound to accelerate its healing. Hydrocolloid-type dressing to give better conditions for healing has been developed consisting of gelatin, pectin, water and hydrophilic polymer which promote healing. In recent years, much attention has been focused on the research and development of polymer hydrogels as biomaterials, such as contact lenses, wound dressin...

Effects of nitric oxide releasing poly(vinyl alcohol) hydrogel dressings on dermal wound healing in diabetic mice.

Healing of chronic wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers is a significant clinical problem. Methods of accelerating healing in these difficult lower extremity sites include use of growth factor-loaded gels, hyperbaric oxygen, grafts, and artificial skin replacements. Nitric oxide (NO) has been proposed as a possible active agent for enhancing wound healing. This study examines the in vitro and in...
